So in this piece of music we had used a variety of instruments and a lot of mixed tempo also a variety in volume (dynamics) and quite a few of instruments such as the electric guitar, the drums an African drum and the piano (not to be confused with keyboard).
As we start the piece we have a strict build up making sure we use the canon effect bringing one instrument in at a different point of time contrasting to starting our piece with all the instruments coming in with one go.
We have also used a variety of tempo building up a steady rhythm until we hit the point of the trailer where the screen/monitor goes black and there is a sudden boom/bomb.
A variety of drone notes have been played by Omar on the drum whereas me and Raza have managed to play quite a few of ostinato's as our parts required them. Jerome has played a steady pedal note throughout the performance while he played lead and also managed the tempo of the piece.
On a slightly more critical note we have not managed our volume very well in terms of not being able to hear some people in our performance and also not being able include/use sound effects and vocals so far on this piece we are therefore planning to use more sound effects and vocals further on in our piece.
Shawn,
ReplyDeleteThis is for both your reflection and the final performance.
Your group have demonstrated your knowledge and understanding of how to control musical elements; you have variations in tempo, pitch, dynamics and texture and a good selection of musical sounds. Your work is coherent and has a good structure. All sounds are balanced well.
The music was well timed with the film scene. A lot of effort has gone into rehearsing this piece with evidence not only in your reflection but from our class observations that you consistently thought of ways to improve the piece.
I feel that your musical skills are progressing and there is evidence of this. You provided good ideas to the rest of your group and constantly responded to changes. Be careful in your reflections that you use words correctly - I don't think it's possible to play a drone on a drum?
Your reflections are ok overall though I would like to see greater use of music terminology that we learnt this term to include comments on how you varied the texture of the piece for example and little more description about what you think you could do better. You role was effective and very much needed but how could you demonstrate something more complex to really show how you’ve developed your playing skills as well as your composing skills? I feel like you could have pushed yourself to play something more complex but what you did was still good.
To improve it would be good to include some different musical ideas also as the piece felt a little short in terms of the amount of different musical ideas used.
